Natural Fiber Clothing At Least Once A Week
Choosing natural fiber over synthetic fiber clothing is an important step towards the brighter future for Planet Earth. Knowing that the textile industry is one of the biggest polluters in the world, it is about time that we make a few important decision concerning the issue. And the fact is – the clothes that we wear matter much more than simply how they look on us. The way it feels on our body, the impact they have on our environment and the economic stability that it can bring – must also be taken into consideration.
Facts about the Fashion Industry
According to a recent interview of Jagadish Vasudev, known as Sadhguru, at Mount Carmel College, Bangalore, he stated that
- Fashion Industry is the third largest polluter in the world right now.
- It is estimated around the world, compared to how much clothing our grandparents had, how much clothing we have, is on an average is 5 times more.
- By 2025, these numbers will be around double, which means nearly 10 times more.
- Out of this 95% is poly-fiber. Poly-fiber has entered into our body, animals, plants, water, soil, food chain, and everything.
However, many people tend to overlook the effects of such synthetic fiber and the damages that it is causing not only to our body but to our surrounding as well.
Indian Weave Heritage
One substitute which has been there for thousands of years, but is fading ever since – is the solution to all these problems. Clothing made from the natural fiber is one of the best choices that you can make as a youth, to create a global impact. However, the art of natural fiber clothing is dying with each passing day.
- India was one of the greatest suppliers of textiles to the rest of the world one time. Almost 60% of the world’s exports was Indian textile 300 years ago.
- During the British era, it was systematically destroyed and more than 3 to 4 million people died in about 50 years simply because the textile industry was systematically knocked down.
- As millions of people died, one of the governor generals in 1860 said that “The fields of India are bleached by the bones of hand weavers.”
According to Sadhguru, India is poised to clothe the world again, only if we do the things right in a natural way. The Indian economy can burgeon if natural fiber comes back – because there is no other country on the planet that has the skills which India does. With over 120 distinct weaves coming from our fields, nearly fifty of those are on the verge of dying, as the natural fiber is slowly but gradually coming to extinction. And eventually, all these distinct fibers will see their demise in the next 10 to 15 years, if we don’t act now.
JDS Varanasi has always thought of the environment before its profit. The brand not only produces the best quality fabric but also focuses on using natural raw materials such as cotton, jute, and silk. To be more clear JDS has an exclusive and intricately designed collection of BANARSI SAREES. BANARASI SAREES is not only the primary choice of women but it is also made up of the natural fibers.
If we want to save the rich heritage of Indian weaves, it is important that we start doing something about it. And wearing one natural fiber clothing a week is the first step towards a brighter future. Many farmers will be able to feed their family and we can certainly see the economy growing as well. It is time, we do something to save the dying art of natural fiber.
